I'd like to think there is a way forward, but...and yes, that is a very "big" but. I'm not one of those people who incantates the phrase " well, what about ( insert the comparative here) however, moving forward is hard for me to do, since I believe human decency has already been pushed off the cliff.

How does one move forward from that? Does one go to the bottom and pick up the shattered spirits of those who have been the casualties of racist rhetoric? Does one sort through the limbs of those who were mocked for their disabilities, wipe the tears off those who others now believe they are murderers, rapists, drug dealers because of the color of their skin, wrap the hijab back around the heads and faces of women who love Allah in obedience to him, piecing together women's esteem whose view of themselves has been stripped bare because they were referred to as dogs, pigs, only being of importance by their genitals, bandaging the reopened wounds of men who still have shrapnel stuck in their bodies from wars, only to reveal they are "losers and suckers" from their commander-in chief, to the highest crime of them all, somehow telling innocent children that we cannot find their parents because of immigration policies that separated them and have no family lineage to call their own?

I truly would love to move forward and forget that I have witnessed such things in my lifetime. I would love to embrace lost relatives and friends over this divisiveness that has come into forefront of our history.

I remember a time when to "reconcile" meant balancing one's checkbook...

We can reconcile these broken relationships, however, I know in my heart of hearts, there will never be a balance in what is right from wrong.
