Unfortunately, that's an American thing, dating many. many years back. Americans are quite stupid, I should know, because I have lived here my entire life and they refuse to learn better ways of addressing the lexicon of race. For example, they call people from the Middle East "middle eastern". I have never heard people from that region call themselves that, they either refer to themselves as Turkish, or Libyan, or Iranian, and so on and so forth. As for facing discrimination, that's part of the American dream for foreigners, we will never belong or be accepted as "americans" because we don't fit within the "blonde hair, blue eyes" white skin ideal. And now, in real time, asians who come in all different shapes and sizes are bearing the brunt of hostilities from everyone and everywhere. Its hunting season and we're their prey with a target on our backs.
